Making facial feature more attractive
and glamorous is the need of the hour. Many celebrities and film stars are madly
in rush for changing the contour of their face. Some of the common procedures
followed by plastic surgeons to make the face look more attractive are discussed
below.
Facial implants
Artificial implants are used in
cosmetic surgery and they are inserted under subcutaneous tissues onto the bone
underneath it. These implants give new definitions to the facial contours and
enhance the youthfulness and attractiveness of the concerned person. There are
implants of several materials for different purposes. The most appropriate one
for a person is selected by the surgeon based on his individual requirement.
Cheek and chin implant surgeries are
different from other cosmetic surgeries in a number of ways. These surgeries
have multiple options. With minimal cutting, implants can be placed in their desired
position and quite often these implants produce dramatic results. Most people feel
happy about the outcome and they find it very easy to adjust to the new
appearance.
What to expect?
Chin and cheek implants surgeries are
usually carried out through incisions which are made inside the mouth. Sometimes
implants are placed through a small incision below the chin. These implants are
inserted into a pocket created under skin. They are secured in their position
with the help of screws or sutures. In some cases of facial contouring reducing
of jawbones or cheekbones becomes unavoidable. This is done by removing the
excess skin and connected tissues along with the removed piece of bone.
Chin alterations
Cosmetic surgery of chin helps to
create a new profile by defining a new proportional balance of facial features
like neck, nose, lips forehead etc. For
example a receding chin normally makes an average nose look large. This can be
avoided by correcting the contour of the chin. A large chin is often made small
through surgery. For this the surgeon makes an incision beneath the lower lip
and cuts the bone using bone-contouring instruments. After completing the
contouring, the incision is closed and special tape is affixed over the chin for
making healing easier. This surgery can be performed as a single surgery or as
part of a rhinoplasty or facelift surgery.
A small chin can be made fatter through
a verity of manner. Implants are
inserted through incision inside the mouth which is usually done behind the
lower lip. At the top of chin a pocket is created and the implant is made to reach
the cavity and the incision is closed after placing it in the correct position.
The chin is supported for several days to avoid excessive swelling and prevent
fluid accumulation. In another procedure known as advance genioplasty the chin
is allowed to move forward. This makes the chin look prominent and changes in
the chin in the vertical direction can also be incorporated in this surgery.
For this surgery an incision is made in the inner area of the lower lip. The bone
below the lower border and below the lower teeth is cut. The chin is carefully
detached and moved forward. The chin in the new position is stabilized with the
help of plates, screws and wires.
Cheek alterations
Surgical procedure for altering the
cheek bones to enhance the facial appearance is often carried out through small
incisions inside the upper jaw. After creating a pocket inside the inner
portion of the upper jaw area, the implants are securely positioned in the
correct places and the incisions are closed. Some patients need custom implant
depending upon their requirement. In such
cases custom implants are fabricated making use of special imaging done
for this purpose.
Risks
1.Problems caused by anesthesia
2. Infection: The antibiotics
prescribed by your surgeon will be enough
to prevent infection. But if infection develops even after following the
medication prescribed by the surgeon, it will be necessary to remove the
implant.
3. Extrusion: in some rare cases the implants
are visible through the skin. In some other cases the implant may change its
position or fluids will be collected. In
such cases the removal of the implant will become unavoidable.
There will be some initial swelling
and discoloration which will not last long. Initial numbness or tingling will
naturally vanish in due course of time.
In some cases erosion of bone are caused
as a result of using implants of synthetic materials. In rare cases this can be
serious and will be affecting the teeth also.
What to expect?
This surgery is usually done under
general anesthesia or local anesthesia depending upon the merits of individual
cases. The surgery usually takes about
two hours. The patients are usually allowed to go home that day itself or on
the next day. The patient can expect moderate discomfort during the surgical
procedure. There may be bruising for about three weeks and swelling will last
for several weeks or months. Temporary numbness will be felt over the lower
lip. General four to six months are required for completed recovery.
