Brow lift - Cosmetic surgery - Indian medical toursim

Most elderly people are worried about sagging skin in their forehead region. The solution for  their problem is brow lift which contains two separate procedures namely forehead lift and  eyebrow lift. This procedure helps to reverse the aging process. Wrinkles in your forehead and creases found there are caused as a result of facial expressions for the whole of the life time of a person and due to environmental effects. Younger people may also have lower brows as a result of genetic formation or other problems.
Risks
The probable risks associated with brow lift procedure are discussed below.
There can be some visible scars after brow lift
Skin sensation may change: There can be permanent or temporary numbness as the surgery is done making an incision behind the hairline.
Asymmetrical brows: Brow lifting can result in asymmetry. But usually it evens out after a short while. In some cases additional surgery will be required for solving this problem.
Hair problems: Elevated hair line or loss of hair usually follows brow lift surgery. If this problem is not solved on its own hair grafting or similar procedure would have to be made use of.
Preparations
1.  Review of the patient’s medical history:  The doctor will examine your charts and review your medical background. Tell your physician about medications that you are now taking and details of any surgeries you have undergone. Inform him if you are allergic to some medications. Your doctor will also examine your body  and different parts of the body like eyes, face etc. At this time you can reveal your expectation from the surgical procedure. At this stage you have to understand the benefits and risks of undergoing this surgical procedure.
2. Stop smoking: As smoking slows down the healing process, your doctor may require you to stop smoking before surgery and will have to continue it during healing period also.
Avoid some medications:  Your doctor will advise you which medicines can be continued and which have to be stopped during the convalescence period.
Arrange a driver:  It is better you arrange a driver in advance for your return journey to home as you will not be able to drive the car then.
The surgical procedure
This procedure can be carried out as an outpatient facility or in a hospital. You are generally given general anesthesia so that you will be unconscious during the surgery. These surgeries usually take approximately two hours.
There are different approaches in brow lift surgery and depending on your needs the most appropriate procedure will be decided by the surgeon in consultation with you. Your doctor may adopt any one of the three techniques discussed below.
Endoscopic brow lift
This procedure is done using several small incisions behind your hair line. Then a long tube with a tiny camera is inserted through an incision. This instrument is known as endoscope. Specialized instruments for carrying out the surgery are inserted through other incisions. Surgeon removes the lifts the forehead tissue and anchors them in place with the help of sutures or some other similar techniques. During the process he views the surgical site thruh the endoscope and using special equipments carries out the surgical procedure making use of the controls of them which are in his hand. After completing the surgical procedure, the incisions are closed with small clips or stitches.
Coronal brow lift
In this procedure your surgeon makes an incision near your hairline across the top from ear to ear. Your forehead will be lifted to this new position and the scalp in front of this incision will be overlapping the scalp behind it. The extra scalp is then removed and the remaining scalp is stitched together. This procedure is not suitable for persons who have thin hair or high hairlines or for those who are likely to lose their hair.
Hair line brow lift
In this case the surgeon makes an incision on the top of your head near the beginning of your hairline.  A small amount of skin and tissue from the top of the forehead are then removed. This method can produce dramatic improvements in creases which are horizontal.  A person who has a high receding hairline will be the most beneficiary of such a procedure. However, a scar may be visible after the surgery depending upon healing.
Recovery
After completing the surgery the patient’s forehead will be taped and his head will be loosely wrapped to reduce swelling. A small tube will be provided near the incision to drain excess fluid or blood. You will be instructed how to take care of the incisions for the first few days.
Keep your head in an elevated position and take medication recommended by the doctor
Applying cold compresses can relieve the swelling
Take care of the incisions and see that they are not subjected to pressure or motion.
As the incision starts healing you may feel itching and numbness which will slowly vanish. Your bandage will be removed in one or two days. Sutures will be removed within 8 to 10 days.
You can resume your daily activities when doctor says ok. Swelling may be there for some more time. You need not worry about that. You can use make up to cover prolonged bruising. If you feel any shortness of breath, chest pain, irregular heart beat etc during convalescence period report it immediately to your doctor.
