Genioplasty: Jaw deformities ranging from mild deformity to severe defects are very common in human beings. A deficient chin may require advancing and an asymmetry may require a correction in the center line.  It may be required to increase or decrease the height of the lower part of your face, or it may be required to camouflage the horizontal length of a deficient lower jaw. All these corrections can be done using a common procedure which is known by the broad name genioplasty. Sliding genioplasty: This is a versatile procedure the use of which can produce a transforming effect to your face. This is a procedure which can be used for reducing or augmenting your chin and is generally known as sliding genioplasty. As the entire operation is carried out through the incisions inside the mouth no external scars will be visible after the surgery. In this surgery the jaw bone is dissected in such a way that it will be slide  freely in the forward and backward directions.  The height of the lower face can be increased or decreased depending on the cosmetic needs of the patient. Small screws fixed at the site heal very fast. The only risk factor in this surgery is the potential numbness that may be caused to the area containing the lip and the chin. The   numbness may vanish in due course of time. In some cases the numbness remains permanent. But human brain has the capacity to adapt to this numbness and the patient may not be aware of the numbness after a few months.

Implant genioplasty: This is a procedure in which a synthetic prosthesis is implanted inside your mouth to augment the existing jaw bone so that the aesthetic appearance is increased and the self esteem and confidence of the patient is restored. But surgeons who are familiar with sliding genioplasty prefer this surgery rather than implant genioplasty for various reasons. It has to be understood that implant genioplasty can be used only for an advancement of 5 mm or less. As the implant is made from a synthetic material   the chance of getting infected and implant being rejected by the body cannot be overlooked. The possibility of erosion of the implant as a result of the pressure on the sides of the implant exerted by the bone above the implant cannot be ruled out. The implants do not integrate with the body as they are made out of synthetic materials.

Asymmetric chin correction: Asymmetrical jaw is very awkward and chin correction is the only solution to such a problem. A plastic surgeon who is very well versed and experienced in plastic surgery will be able to find out the actual reason for the asymmetric chin which may include a dental malocclusion, growth disorder of joints and jaws etc.

Asymmetric chin correction: The term normal facial appearance implies that the features of the face like the nose, the chin and the cheekbones are in their proper place and are having their proper proportions. If any of the features are out of size or is improperly positioned it may look awkward and such a person may feel very depressed and harassed especially if he is beauty conscious. Bone reshaping is a procedure which can be very helpful in reducing the difficulties  and ill feeling of such persons. The incision for this operation is made in between the lower lip and the gum and if an implant is to be carried out the surgeon will suggest making the incision through the natural crease under the chin. To make the cheek bones flatter implants are inserted through the cuts made inside the mouth through the meeting place of neck and the upper gum. The implants are tolerated by the body if they are made out of silicon or other such suitable materials. If a bone graft is needed the bone for this purpose is taken from hip which results in a scar which will be noticeable. One important aspect of this surgery is that this can be done along with other cosmetic surgeries like face lift etc.

Reduction: A larger chin may give a feeling that the other features like nose and lips are oversized and may lead to a misconception about the overall appearance and the personality of the person concerned. Chin reduction surgery is indented to change the size of the chin in such a way that it becomes proportionate to the other facial features and improves the overall aesthetics of the appearance. Depending upon your requirements the surgeon decides which of the three procedures given below the most suitable one for the patient is and carries out that procedure.

Implant: Implanting is suitable where more projection or pointing of the chin is required to be achieved. Implants are made of silicon or polyethylene material which has been found to be very suitable for facial implants.

Trimming of the bone: This surgical procedure is carried out in the cases where the projection is okay, but a more female facial balance is required. Electric grinders and saws specially designed for this purpose are used for carrying out the shaping procedure.

Sliding genioplasty: This surgery is used to change the projection and the height of the chin in a single effort. The chin is chopped into two parts so that the parts can slide freely in the forward and backward directions. This separated upper part of the lower jaw is placed above the lower part with necessary screws and fittings so that the required projection and height are obtained.

Double chin correction: When an excess fold of fat or skin is formed below the natural chin it is usually referred to as double chin. Double chin in young people is caused by the accumulation of fat consequent to overweight. A small chin can also contribute to the appearance of a double chin. As the age increases the effect of double chin becomes noticeable as the excess flesh and skin starts sagging. If the angle between the jaw line and the neck is acute it is a sign of youthfulness and as age increases this angle increases and turns to be obtuse which gives a visual sign of increased age. In young men, liposuction performed by an experienced plastic surgeon using fine cannula is a most safe and popular practice for removing the double chin and for reducing the angle of the chin to the neck. In most cases of double chin, excess fat is found on the lower side of the face giving a chubby face look. This fat is also removed in facial liposuction. If necessary the buccal fat pad where fat is encapsulated in the cheek will also be removed to give the face a chiseled look.

Facial liposuction: Liposuction is the name of a surgical procedure which is performed to remove the excess and unwanted fatty deposits in and around the body. When this technique is applied to remove the excess fat in the neck, lips, cheeks etc it is known as facial liposuction. Facial liposuction is usually performed along with procedures like brow lift, eyelid surgery, nose surgery etc with an intention to give a more youthful and attractive and sculpted look to the face of the person concerned.  The surgical procedure starts with an incision made in the skin in the area where the cleaning activity has to be carried out. The skin over the area is removed and the area is flushed with saline water.  Lidocaine which chokes the blood flow and epinephrine which is a local analgesic are also flushed above the area. Now the surgeon removes the extra fat under the skins surface by sucking it out using an extra thin cannula.  The extra skin in the face which has been left loose after removing the fat is cut and removed and surgical stitches are attached to secure the skin to the tissue below it. Four types of facial liposuctions known as dry facial liposuction, wet facial liposuction, and super wet facial ultra sound facial liposuction are now practiced by cosmetic surgeons.
